SYRACUSE — Four indoor track and field athletes from the area won events at the state meet at Onondaga Community College on Tuesday. There are eight more runners, those four, and a relay team going to the state meet.
On March 2, the New York State Track & Field Championships will take place on Staten Island.
Two girls from the area won things. This girl from Thomas R. Proctor High School won the long jump. In the triple jump, Addison Lazarek of Sauquoit Valley won, and Hallie Fehlhaber of West Canada Valley also made the qualifying mark with her time. Lazarek made it in the 300 as well.
Imani Pugh from Rome Free Academy made it to the Olympic finals in two events: the 55-meter hurdles and the high jump. It will be her third trip to a state inside.
In the 3,000, Brynn Bernard of South Lewis also made it.
Aaron Johnson of Sauquoit won the pole vault and will go to states.
Logan Hewitt of Central Valley Academy won the shot put. Anthony Tobiasz from Whitesboro and Nathan Hanna from Sauquoit also made it to the event.
In the 3,200, both Collin Stafford of South Lewis and Joseph Berry of Hamilton made it. Stafford also got a good time in the 1,600.
Iain Farber from West Canada made it to the finals in the weight throw.
In the 800 meters, Jack Tagliaferri, Tyler Szarek, Riley Smith, and Damian Simmonds ran for Oriskany and made it to the finals. Simmonds also got a spot in the 300. In the 300, Xavier Pawlowski of Whitesboro also made it.
